Wooden vs Acrylic Plaques: Which Suits Your Award?
Wooden and acrylic plaques compared on look, durability, printing, weight and price, with advice on which suits which occasion.

Plaques are the workhorse of recognition: appreciation, long service, certificates, chief guests. The two most common choices are wood and acrylic, and they suit different moods.
| Wooden plaque | Acrylic plaque | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Warm, traditional, formal | Modern, clean, bright |
| Text and logo | Laser engraved or on a metal plate | Engraved or printed in full colour |
| Weight | Medium to heavy | Light |
| Durability | Very durable; keep away from damp | Shatter-resistant; can scratch |
| Best for | Schools, government, long service, farewells | Corporate, tech, events, brand colours |
Choose wood when
The occasion is formal or traditional, or the plaque will hang on a wall for years: service awards, school honours boards, government recognition.
Choose acrylic when
You want your brand colours and logo to pop, or the award is for a modern company or an event. Acrylic can also be cut to shape, which wood plaques rarely are.

Or combine them
Many of our plaques mix both: an acrylic or metal face on a wooden backing. You get the warmth of wood with a bright, printed front.
